Chassis numbers explained

A quick explanation of the chassis number codings.

example = WP0ZZZ96ZPS800827,
breaking it down = W-P-0-ZZZ-96-Z-P-S-8-00827

W = world vehicle identification code,
P = Porsche.
0 = (zero)passenger car(non SUV, SUV = 1)
ZZZ = non American, rest of the world.
96 = first 2 characters of vehicle type.
Z = test code, (not sure what that means).
P = model year code, = 1993.
S = manufacturing site, presumably = Stuttgart, (N would be Neckarsulm).
8 = third character of vehicle type (part of above).
00827 = actual vehicle number. (although the first 60 may never have been used commercially as it was common practice for the factory to withhold the first 60 numbers for factory use)
