Question
Anyone know if our cars have any kind of inertia type fuel pump cut off
switch which kills the supply to the pump in the event of an impact?
Just wondering if this might help in the event of an accident to minimise the risk of fire?
Answer
It's the job of the DME Relay in the fuse box. It gets its No.85 pin grounded
by the DME Computer when it detects the engine is cranking, this activates
the relay which switches on the fuel pump, a secondary relay in the same
box switches on the idle stabilizer circuit and the O2 sensor.
All this just so when the engine stops, so does the fuel pump thus limiting the fire risk of petrol leaks in the engine bay.
This is pretty much standard setup on all Bosch DME equipped cars.
If you need a replacement, you can get a Beru DME Relay from our 968 Shop.
